How to look after a synthetic wig.

ree

Weather you wear wig for medical reason, change of style, or just for a fun convenience of not doing your hair every day, there are steps on how to maintain your wig to ensure they last long and still look fabulous!

Now all wigs have a different set of needs to ensure they can stay looking fresh for as long as possible.

In this post we will be talking about synthetic wigs and how to look after a synthetic wig including washing and storing.

step 1;

Make sure you have a shampoo that it suitable for synthetic wigs.

trenco t- range shampoo is the one I use as it is a deep cleansing shampoo for fibre wigs (synthetic) it helps remove dirt and maintain the wigs natural look.

Your wig will need to be washed every 6-12 wears or as often as you think it needs when you wear your wig regular you will know when it will need a wash/ freshen up.

step 2;

Gently comb out with a detangler any knots or tangles in the wig before washing. especially around the nape and hair line theses can be the most tangled.

Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and some fibre shampoo, swish the water around until the shampoo is all nice and bubbly.

Place the wig in the bowl or sink and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to soak through.

Gentle rub around any lace to remove any makeup or glue residue.

You can apply some more shampoo onto the wig you think its needed and then gently massage the wig.

Once the wig is saturated rise off under cool water until all the shampoo is washed away and the water runs clear.

step 3;

Place a decent amount of conditioner onto the ends of the wig only never place conditioner to the root or lace of the wig.

Leave the conditioner on for 5- 10 minutes to really soak in then same as the shampoo just rinse the conditioner off under cool water until its all gone and water runs clear.

step 4;

Once the wig is all washed you want to gently squeeze the excess water off the wig.

When you've removed majority of the water you then want to get a towel and gently pat the wig with the towel to remove even more excess water.

Then if you have a wig head stand you want to place the wig on the head and let it drip dry, ensure you place a towel down to catch any and all water that will drip onto the floor, if you don't have a wig stand just balance the wig on a tap and let it drip dry in the sink.

You don't want to use any heat on a synthetic wig as it can damage the wig and the fibres, using heat can make the wig go frizzy, break off, make it even more tangled and make it look less natural due to heat damage, it can also make the life span of the wig less also so you will find your self buying new wigs more regular than looking after the one you already have.

In-between washes you can uses a holding spray or conditioning spray after each wear of the wig to help just keep the wig looking fresh.
